What is Chris’ Blokey Blog?

What is Chris’ Blokey Blog?

Here’s the thing. Men get a raw deal.

I know, I know, diddums. Women look after the house and home, manage the household budget, give birth, usually cook and clean and are more readily judged by age and appearance.

All men have to do is be the breadwinner – plod their way clumsily like rhinos across their savannahs, locking horns and grunting belligerently occasionally. It really should be such a happy life but rarely is.

Young men have the highest rate of poor mental health of any social group, are most likely to be the victims and perpetrators of crime and have shocking role models to follow of what ‘real men’ are supposedly like.

Being a ‘new man’ circa GQ and Men’s Health in the early 1990s is safely scoffed at these days in preference to ignorant, often irritable ‘blokes’ who, let’s not beat around the bush, are usually people like Jeremy Clarkson, Piers Morgan or even Boris Johnson or Donald Trump with a mindset stuck somewhere between an undefined era that never existed when things were ‘alright’.

In the UK this is supposed to be a country of warm beer, where women know their place and pre-political correctness when you could joke openly about black people, Irish, Jews and gays without being deemed what you actually were – an idiot.

Men, being men, have fallen for this rhetoric too readily. Always ones for an easy life, we don’t test and challenge ourselves enough or aim to be, as the advertising slogan goes, the best a man can get.

Instead, we live shallow existences that sell our potential short.

Getting older doesn’t mean getting wiser. Blokes get grumpier, more stuck in their ways, susceptible to rumours and culture wars being fought out on our bodies if asked to eat healthily, exercise more and refine our minds.

That’s where Blokey Blog comes in.

I want men to offer themselves a better deal. Not telling you what to do or how to think or act – but to consider opening their mindsets to change so they can enjoy life (and, yes, that can include a good moan – just not at everything all the time), be calm, exercise more, eat well and care, not just for themselves but for others and to experience the inner peace that comes with the satisfaction from doing the right things for the right reasons.

I want to see if we can slow the ageing process down or at least hold back the tide so we enjoy the days, hours, minutes and seconds we have left on this planet rather than raging bitterly and constantly against the machine.

I can hear the voices of gloom squealing about being told what to think, confining any such aspiration as the wish fulfilment of do-gooders, woke, virtue signallers. Fair enough, feel free to return to your fry up, get fat, bitter, older and twisted. Your choice.

But what if?

What if eating well made you feel better?

What if exercise enabled you to bend, twist and stretch easier and have more energy?

What if we approached life with a positive, proactive mindset – not a negative naysayer reactive attitude?

What if we achieved things we didn’t believe we could do?

Imagine the enormous satisfaction on days like those?

Men – what have you got to lose?

So here’s the deal. I’m breaking the Blokey Blog down into a series of different communications:

Blokey Blog itself is my (Chris Green’s) take on life;

Chive Talking is my vlog on the joy and benefits of growing and eating fresh, healthy, easy foods to cook from gardens herbs to chuck into cooking;

The Radical Rethink is a blog offering a fresh attitude and approach to life, community and charity;

Test and challenge are inspiring ways to set your own goals – starting with my own three-month half-marathon countdown from a standing start to the finishing line;

Radio CGM – The storytelling podcast is our weekly tale of inspiration – interviews with ordinary people doing remarkable things.

Everything in fact that can make us fitter and heathier, happier blokes.

What’s not to like?
