CGM founder Chris Green is an award-winning author and broadcaster whose distinguished career includes:

– Senior Editor at the official Beijing 2008 Olympic Games website

– Co-Producer of the British Radio Academy’s 2007 Speech Programme of the Year (Radio 4’s The Reunion)

– Author of Every Boy’s Dream, nominated for the 2010 British Sports Book of the Year.

A vastly experienced BBC network radio journalist, Chris was primarily a reporter and producer on a wide range of programmes for BBC Radio 4, Radio 5 Live, the World Service and One Xtra.

Chris has also been a website journalist at the 2006 Asian Games in Qatar, worked for Sky Sports cricket coverage and written for several national newspapers and magazines.

BACKGROUND & EDUCATION

Born and raised in Worcester, after leaving school Chris took a commercial apprenticeship at the Austin Motor Company/British Leyland at the formner Longbridge car plant in South Birmingham where he also held a number of commercial roles before leaving to study in higher education.

He has a BA (Hons) in Contemporary Cultural Studies (University of Wolverhampton) and a Postgraduate Diploma in Communications (Goldsmiths’ College, University of London) before embarking on a 20 years career in freelance radio journalism ahead of setting up CGM in 2010.

For his sins, Chris is a lifelong West Bromwich Albion and Worcestershire CCC supporter and has coaching qualifications in both football and cricket. In 2018 he collected an Outstanding Achievement to Cricket Award for the All Stars project he oversaw at Droitwich Spa CC.

He has been a director of Worcestershire Ambassadors, patron of the National Children’s Football Alliance and is currently an enterprise advisor for schools across Worcestershire.

Chris founded Chris Green Media as a media consultancy in 2010 after a substantial career in multimedia journalism. Read our story for details.

Responsible for CGM’s strategic vision and business development, Chris also oversees CGM’s media and communications training courses, client PR & comms and publishing services.

Chris also presented the CGM Business Media Club for 10 years between 2013-2023 and has coached several business people in media and comms.

Broadcaster

Chris enjoyed a prolific career as a broadcast journalist, initlaly as a reporter then producer and editor on a wide range of factual programmes and documentaries for BBC network stations.

His portfolio includes:

BBC Radio 4 (The Reunion, You & Yours, Going Places, Home Truths, PM, The Archive Hour, File on Four, Westminster Hour, Questions Questions, Last Man In & Seagulls Follow the Trawler, plus one-off documentaries including Three Degrees West, Aynuck & Ayli, Wes Hall Broke My Arm & Follow That With Your Sealions among others).

Chris’ other radio credits includes work for BBC World Service, Radio One’s Newsbeat, One Xtra, BBC Radio WM, BBC Hereford & Worcester, LBC, Capital Gold and the London Radio Service.

Author

Chris is the author of several books and has contributed to or edited many more.

His first book The Sack Race – The Story of Football’s Gaffers (Mainstream 2002) was a prestigious Sunday Times Book of the Week, and was closely followed by Football Confidential – Scams, Scandals & Screw Ups (BBC Worldwide 2003),  co authored with his On The Line colleagues.

In 2005, Chris published Matchday – What Makes Saturday Special (Highdown 2005) described as ‘a vivid, multi-faceted account of football’s place in contemporary Britain’ by The Financial Times and Every Boy’s Dream – England’s Football Future On the Line was nominated for British Sports Book of the Year in 2010. In the same year Chris co authored Cyrille Regis – My Story (Carlton 2010) with the late, great football legend and friend.

Chris authored a media toolkit for The Football Association in 2013, edited The Black Football Heritage Book (2014), From Winning Teams to Broken Dreams for Dominic Ball (2022) and carried out research for The Boss – The Many Sides of Alex Ferguson by Michael Crick.
