04 Nov My Magnificent Seven
By Brendan McMahon – owner of Classic Lines Design and CGM’s creative lead
I have fond memories of the Business Media Club since it began and have attended club meetings in Worcester and Birmingham, indeed most of the 100 meetings that have taken place over the past seven years.
I enjoy the banter, approachability, enthusiasm and honesty of each meeting – an environment for everyone to talk openly and freely without any glass ceilings.
So here are my seven reasons why YOU may wish to attend the club:
1 . A fantastic sharing environment
Everyone brings their own energy to the club and shares their thoughts among businesses of all shapes and sizes from sole traders and SMEs to large organisations from all sectors, making it an open forum and a great leveller.
2. So much more than networking
Of course we do network but the club is about so much more. It is a learning experience with people coming together to look at things from differing perspectives and to come up with solutions to solve problems for each other.
3. Magical lightbulb moments
This never ceases to amaze me. I have seen it so many times when someone would, as encouraged by Chris to stop the meeting, raise their hand and say “I’ve got it!” It’s usually a solution to something troubling them about the marketing of their business. Some folks almost levitate out of the door with the wonder of their fantastic discovery and willingness to act on it straight away.
4. Amazing venues
The club has been hosted in so many different venues – the inspirational Worcestershire County Cricket Club, with its wonderful views to Worcester Cathedral and the Malvern Hills, Longbridge Innovation Centre, the University of Birmingham and the CGM Media Centre. All have played their part in the vitality and energy of the club.
5. Education
The club provides knowledge, information and inspiration so everyone leaves with lots of useful ideas and long ‘to do’ lists.
6. Inspiration
The club is a workout for your mind. It deconstructs media and marketing topics and puts them back together by humanising them in a common sense approach to recharge our emotional batteries.
7. Chris, Teresa and the CGM collective
So many of us have delivered sessions and I can’t wait for us to be able to reconvene in person again, but the club has always been about Chris and Teresa’s enthusiasm, experience and ability put people at ease and host and entertain them.
I’d urge anyone who wants to grow their business, gain a fresh perspective and absorb inspiration to visit the club soon, whether online or when we can restart hosting meetings again.
