Business Media Club Blog: Focus and direction

Business Media Club Blog: Focus and direction

Focus and direction – the theme of our opening Business Media Club meeting of 2022.

Aiming to achieve One Big Thing. Sounds self-limiting? Not at all.

Bringing focus and direction to marketing your one sole goal, be it a product, service or any other facet of your business, doesn’t mean that’s all you do. Instead, it is about prioritising your time and energy to chart a true course to achieve a positive outcome.

First you need to get real – understand the business or situation you’re in, where you are and where you want to be, and to realise that everything happens for a reason. It is what we do – how proactive we are – that shapes our destiny. The priorities we make, the actions we take and the mindset we shape that can get us there.

We also need to make sense. There’s no such thing as common sense – it a social construction which constantly fluctuates. Brexit, Veganuary, climate change, how to cope in a-post covid economy and the future of work-life balance are topics which barely existed in Britain a few years ago. Now they are centre stage. How we communicate and market our One Big Thing in a wider context so it makes sense and appeals to the minds of those we’re aiming it at is vital.

Planning thoroughly in meticulous detail also matters – setting clear timelines, timescales and working within the parameters of seasons and special occasions.

Most of we need a vision, shaped big and bold, for seeing is believing. We need to make it real – in our hearts and in our minds. If you believe it you can achieve it.

Belief means being true unto you. Not just wearing your heart on your sleeve but marketing your values and ethics – communicating characteristics that can connect with people who share similar views.

You’ll also be committed. If you truly believe in your One Big Thing shape you’ll use your strength of character to work hard to make it happen.

Getting creative is important too. Using your imagination to shape and market your One Big Thing will bring it to life and help promote another key facet – your authenticity – the one key element that research shows millennials want more than anything else in brands these days – something special, unique, individual and true.

Authentic marketing has never been easier to create and communicate or to take to market as it is today.

Finally, our opening Business Media Club meeting of 2022 will emphasise the difference passion can make (we’ll use loads of real life examples).

If you meet all the aspirations above – being real, prioritising, planning proactively, having vision, belief, character, commitment, creativity and authenticity – AND the passion (which beats pounds hand down every time) to make it happen then you’re on the right course – focused and with direction to achieve your One Big Thing.
