After successfully teaming up with Jim Cadman to promote The Celebration Statue, Duncan Edwards Tribute and Bestie75, CGM is delighted to support his latest venture, The Aston Villa 40th Anniversary Tribute.
On Saturday, May 2 1981, Villa captain Dennis Mortimer led the team to one of the greatest feats in the club’s history. After 42 games, using a squad of only 14 players, Villa were Football League champions for the first time in 71 years.
The tribute was formally launched in August 2020 with the publication of a book containing programme covers and reports of every match played during the championship season, player profiles, rare and unpublished photographs, memorabilia plus personal recollections from the players.
A special Collector’s Edition of the book, personally signed by 11 members of the championship winning squad, sold out within weeks. A softback version is still available via the tribute website.
CGM handle PR and social media for the project and gained valuable coverage on BBC Radio WM and the CFB Football podcast as well as in West Midlands publications The Birmingham Mail and Express & Star.
We also forged links with Villa fans across the globe via Twitter, Facebook and Instagram and organised review copies of the book to be sent to online Villa – and wider football – news portals and fanzines.
Promotional photos were taken by CGM photographic partner Jonathan Hipkiss.
AV40 has enjoyed continued success in 2022 as Villa mark the 40th anniversary of winning the European Cup. A double celebration anniversary dinner at Villa Park in May sold out in less than 24 hours and the Champions of Europe book and associated merchandise was also a hit with Villans across the globe.
The Av40 team is also involved in a BT Sport film entitled Super Villans, which will be available to view from May.
