30 May National TV, radio and print coverage for Celebration Statue
The long-awaited unveiling of the Celebration Statue in New Square, West Bromwich, on May 21 attracted widespread national TV, radio and print coverage.
Created by sculptor Graham Ibbeson, the ten foot bronze statue represents ‘art in action’ as West Bromwich Albion legends Laurie Cunningham, Cyrille Regis and Brendon Batson celebrate a goal being scored.
The statue, however, symbolises more than just one goal – it is about the ground-breaking influence the trio had in overcoming racist taunts and prejudice at football grounds throughout England. They responded to this prejudice in style by playing attractive football and winning matches.
CGM has been involved in the statue campaign since its launch in 2012 and was delighted to welcome broadcasters and journalists from the following organisations to New Square:
-BBC News
-BBC Radio 4
-BBC Radio 5 Live
-BBC Midlands Today
-BBC Midlands website and social media channels
-ITV News
-ITV Central
-Channel 5 News
-Sky Sports News
-Express & Star
-Birmingham Mail
-Heart FM
-Free Radio
-Birmingham TV
The statue was also featured in The Times, The Mirror and Daily Express.
