10 Apr CGM blog: Media training – earn it
I love that TV advert where the groom stands up to make his wedding speech, words literally fall off his script and the audience morph into a cluster of angry, antiquated judges.
Inspired to earn his reward of his favourite tipple, the groom is suddenly powered to deliver a blistering speech. He’s earned it.
As a green-around-the-gills broadcaster I was that veritable petrified groom. Before I learned to memorise radio scripts… over and over again, that is. Eventually I learned to banish nerves, focus on delivery and lift words off the script.
Speech making or presenting isn’t a haphazard gift of the gab. It takes more than natural talent to stand in front of an audience and talk with confidence.
It comes with practice – which is made perfect by preparation. You earn it.
Maintaining poise and posture, rolling with the punches or comebacks are speech and presentation-making skills you can learn… but only if you spend a little time and effort working at it.
But when you see the benefit – it is worth it.
For some, it will be delivering their wedding speech, for business people it can be addressing a business audience, making a convincing presentation or successful pitch for investment that can enhance your credibility, offer a competitive edge and win business.
So go on – earn it – take some media training. You’ll never look back.
