Careers fair showcases options

BP careers 1Students at Bishop Perowne CE College in Worcester have been given a valuable insight into the world of work on a careers day.

Year ten pupils took part in workshops focusing on a diverse range of careers, delivered by experienced professionals they had selected. In the evening, students from year seven to 11 and their parents attended a Careers Fair with more than 40 stands.

Exhibitors included local businesses and Bishop Perowne’s partners King’s Worcester, the University of Worcester and Yamazaki Mazak. Apprenticeships were also promoted.

Reflecting the college’s specialism in science, technology, engineering and mathematics, the keynote speaker was former pupil Emily Breeze, a biochemist who is now studying for a PhD in systems biology at the University of Warwick.

Among those in the audience was parent Sally Hewitt, mother of head girl Leigh Hewitt. Mrs Hewitt said: “It was great to hear a female scientist speak with such passion for her subject and I’m sure she will have inspired many young people.”

Headteacher Julie Farr added: “This is the first time we’ve held a careers event on this scale and we’re delighted by the response. It offered an ideal opportunity for our students to talk to prospective employers, colleges and universities about post 16 options.”
