Worcestershire based tax specialist Andrew Russell has gained the best marks in the country on his way to qualifying as a chartered tax advisor.

Mr Russell, who works for Ormerod Rutter Chartered Accountants in Droitwich, will receive the Chartered Institute of Taxation’s Avery Jones Medal after topping the list of 333 candidates in his final tax paper – a case study focusing on the interaction of taxes.

The 33-year-old started his career with the firm ten years ago after graduating from the University of Birmingham and gained his Association of Taxation Technicians qualification in 2007.

“A huge amount of work has gone into the CTA exams so I’m delighted to finish on such a high note,” said Mr Russell.

“Over the past three-and-a-half years, I’ve taken six exams covering various areas of tax, and specifically its application to individuals, trusts and estates, which are areas I particularly enjoy.”
