Football authors Chris Green, Tom Watt and Lance Hardy will discuss modern sports book writing, favourite works which have inspired their writing and the secret to getting a book published at Reading The Game.

Held in conjunction with the University of Worcester, this free event will be staged at The Hive in Worcester city centre on Friday, November 20 between 5.30pm and 9pm.

The schedule looks like this:

5.30pm to 6.15pm – Welcome and introduction – How did we get here and what makes a great football book?

6.15pm to 7pm – So how do you get a book published?

7pm to 7.30pm – Break

7.30pm to 8.15pm – Someone else’s voice – the art of ghost writing sports autobiographies

8.15pm to 9pm – Our best five football books of all time

ABOUT THE AUTHORS

Tom Watt, pictured left, is an actor, broadcaster and author of several football books including David Beckham’s autobiography My Side, Oscar’s Brazil and his seminal work on the demise of England’s football terrace culture, The End. Tom was also curator of the London Football Film Festival and been sole actor in a stage play version of Nick Hornby’s famous football book, Fever Pitch.

Chris Green is an author, broadcaster and former 5 Live sports investigative reporter whose books include Every Boy’s Dream (about England’s academy system), which was nominated for 2010 British Sports Book of the Year; The Sack Race (‘read and learn’- Sports Illustrated) about football management; Matchday (‘the best book ever written about the heart and soul of English football – BBC Radio London); Football Confidential: Scams, Scandals and Screw Ups and Cyrille Regis – My Story.

Lance Hardy, right, is a BBC sports producer and author, Lance has worked on every major international sports tournament over the past 20 years including football World Cups, European Championships and Olympic Games. Lance’s books include the 2010 British Sports Book of the Year nominated Sunderland, Stokoe and ’73, and autobiographies of England women’s footballer Kelly Smith and darts and snooker legends Bobby George and Steve Davis. His latest labour of love on Sunderland AFC, Tales from the Red and Whites, will be released next week.
