CGM blog: The Return of The Radical Rethink

CGM blog: The Return of The Radical Rethink

Since lockdown we’ve entered a webinar wonderland.

Early on, businesses were urged to breezily bounce back with the buzzword ‘resilience’ ringing in their ears and ill-advised monikers like Jump Back July as if Coronavirus never happened or wasn’t likely to led to massive long lasting changes in our lives. Yeah, right.

At CGM we took a different route.

Our in-person media training calendar may have been decimated but we were determined to maintain the same interactive spirit we’ve always fostered – only moved through necessity online.

Step forward The Radical Rethink, a series of themed summer webinars for people to share their thoughts and experiences and the opportunity to learn a little from each other.

Touchy? Feely? Absolutely.

For starters, there’s no pulpit preaching to tell people how they should feel. That’s down to the folks who attend.

We also wanted to encourage people to ponder how they might radically reshape their business and outlook on life as we try to cope with the most momentous change most of us have ever seen.

Covid certainly hasn’t meant business as usual. We’ve all been fundamentally changed by our experiences – good, bad or indifferent.

While lockdown has presented many challenges (some, sadly, will prove insurmountable for many without any fault of their own), for others the lockdown spirit, home working, a realignment of a work-life balance and refocus on things that matter most – has been a positive life-changing experience.

Participants in our summer series explained how they had diversified to stay relative and real to their customers. We heard about kinder communications, how to deal with the very real fears for the future, of isolation and, conversely, a return to the office and the same-old chug through rush hour traffic.

Everyone who tuned in came away feeling better or wiser for the sharing experience – buoyed by the warmth, friendliness, honesty and kindness of fellow delegates.

As the facilitator, ahead of each meeting I enjoyed the freedom to prepare a devil’s advocate Radical Rethink prognosis that would set the tone for the discussion in question.

In bringing The Radical Rethink back after a short break, we’re going to readdress many of the core issues of our summer series – kicked on by the knowledge that Covid will be with for longer than anticipated.

It restarts on Friday October 16, (10aa-midday) with a new meeting theme – how to reshape the tone of our comms and marketing as we hunker down for winter and learn to live with Covid long term.

We’ve also introduced a small meeting fee of £10 – a donation to Worcester Foodbank to help those less fortunate than ourselves.

For more information visit our Radical Rethink website page.

You can book your seat for our October 16 and November 13 meetings via our Eventbrite pages.
